Braden Chiaramonte Makes Winged 410ci Debut at Mini Gold Cup
PETERSEN MEDIA: Having success in a winged 360ci sprint car, Braden Chiaramonte got his first taste of winged 410ci action over the weekend in Chico, CA as he climbed back aboard a Tiner Hirst Enterprise No. 94TH entry.
“It was an eventful weekend, and things definitely didn’t go our way, but it was good to get some first laps in a winged 410ci and get a feel for the difference in the car,” Braden Chiaramonte said.
The action kicked off for the El Cajon, CA youngster on Friday night and things got off to a tough start as a broken nozzle line in time trials put him in a early hole.
From the back of his heat race, Chiaramonte tried to make a move on the start to get closer to a transfer but the car got tight on him and he all but spun out.
Settling back in and playing catch up, Chiaramonte found himself in the ‘B’ after heat race action where he lined up in 7thand needed to make up some ground to lock into the ‘A’.
Getting in fifth, Chiaramonte looked to make a late move to get into the fourth and final transfer spot, but his efforts fell short and his night came to an end.
Back in action on Saturday night for the Mini Gold Cup finale, Chiaramonte and company got off to a much better start as he timed the THE/Shield Safety/HRP backed No. 94TH in 11th fastest in his qualifying flight.
Lining up sixth in his heat race, Chiaramonte was off to quick start as he was battling for a transfer into the feature event. Making in a move in turn three and four, Chiaramonte got up over the banking and make contact with the wall resulting in a wild flip down the front stretch.
No worse for the wear, Chiaramonte escaped from the wreckage and the THE team went to work to make repairs and get him ready for the ‘B’.
Taking the green flag form the third row of the ‘B’, Chiaramonte was able to settle into the fourth and final transfer spot as the laps clicked off. Locking down fourth, the youngster was securely locked into his first 410ci winged sprint car feature event as he took the green flag from 24th.
As the race came under fire, cars piled up in front of Chiaramonte on the sixth lap and with nowhere to go he endure contact which destroyed both his top and nose wing.
Going to the work area, the Tiner Hirst team was able to repair what they could and Chiaramonte was back out on the racing surface with a beaten and battered car.
When the feature event finally came to a close, he capped the weekend off with a 19th place finish.
“I really want to thank everyone that helped all weekend long and worked so hard,” Chiaramonte said. “It was a tough weekend, but it was good to get the first one out of the way and have some bright moments.”
The Tiner Hirst Enterprise Racing team would like to thank Tiner Hirst Enterprise, Hepfner Racing Products, EMI, Fisher Racing Engines, System 1, Larry Davis Farms, and Slade Shocks for their continued support.
