Braden Chiaramonte Scores Four Top-5’s During SCCT Speedweek

PETERSEN MEDIA: Taking part in his second SCCT Speedweek, Braden Chiaramonte had quite a run through California and Oregon, but the final three stops in Washington were tough on the Tiner Hirst Enterprise team.

“We had a really good week through the first five nights, but the last three nights we just were off, and I struggled to get comfortable,” Braden Chiaramonte said. “It was a very long and grueling week, and I am thankful to the THE team for all of their hard work.”

Kicking the action off in CA back on July 18th in Chico, CA, Chiaramonte had a very solid showing despite the track taking rubber in the feature event. Timing in sixth fastest and running second in his heat race, Chiaramonte moved into the feature event where he took the green from the outside of the fifth row.

On the extremely slick surface in the feature event, Chiaramonte picked up a couple of spots early, and then the track started to take on rubber. Running a very smart race, Chiaramonte kept his tire under him and slowly crept towards the Top-5. Getting into fifth in the closing laps, Chiaramonte finished there and his Speedweek was officially off and running.

Travelling to Placerville Speedway the next night, Chiaramonte nearly turned in an identical showing as he timed in fifth quickest in time trials before racing to a second place finish in his heat race.

Again, lining up just behind the Dash cars, Chiaramonte was able to work his way forward on a much more racy surface.

Carving his way through the field, the El Cajon, CA native raced into fifth on the 27th lap where he went on to finish as the series then made their way to Oregon for three stops.

Lining up sixth in Monday night’s feature event after timing in third quickest in time trials, Chiaramonte was never quite able to get rolling in the fast paced feature event. Though he raced inside the Top-10 all race long, he capped the first stop in Oregon off with a seventh place run.

Tuesday night the scene shifted to the Oregon coast, as the series invaded Coos Bay Speedway where Chiaramonte had his best run of the week.

Earing quick time honors in qualifying time trials, he ran third in his heat raece before finishing sixth in the Dash. Lining up sixth in the feature event, Chiaramonte raced his way through the Top-5 and settled into third as he chased after Dominic Scelzi and Jesse Schlotfeldt who duked it out just in front of him.

When the checkered flew, he held the show position as he finished in third.

Wednesday night the action invaded Cottage Grove Speedway in Cottage Grove, OR where he continued to have good speed. Timing in fifth fastest in time trials, Chiaramonte powered to a heat race win before finishing fourth in the Dash.

Lining up in the second row for the feature event, Chiaramonte quickly jujped into third when the race came to life. Battling with the leaders in the early goings, Chiaramonte slipped back to fourth on the seventh circuit as he continued to rip around the ¼ mile bullring.

Falling back to fifth at the halfway point of the race, the youngster worked back into fourth, where he would finish, on the 28th lap.

Taking Thursday off to travel to Burlington, WA for the 360 Summer Nationals at Skagit Speedway on Friday and Saturday night, Chiaramonte timed in 17th fastest in time trials before he raced to a win in the heat race.

With the unique format being ran at Skagit Speedway for the weekend, features were lined up off qualifying points and Chiaramonte found himself buried in the ‘B’.

Finishing ninth in the ‘B’, Chiaramonte moved into Saturday night action where he was collected in his qualifier and sustained heavy damage which all but ended his night.

Able to make the call for the ‘B’, he did what he could in 15 laps as he powered his way from the 21st starting position and finished the night off 12th in the ‘B’.

Sunday night brought one final show in the Evergreen State of Washington as they checked into Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, WA.

Lining up 11th in the feature, Chiaramonte’s fate was ultimately determined by a mechanical failure as he was unable to finish the feature and ended the week 4th overall in points.

“It was just a bummer that we had the last three nights that we did because we were so good all week leading up to that,” Chiaramonte said. “It was a long stretch, and we will take a couple weekends off before returning to action for the Gold Cup.”
