Chance Grasty Shakes 360ci Down For This Weekend’s Trophy Cup
PETERSEN MEDIA- Getting their Trophy Cup engine back last week, Chance Grasty and the F&F Racing made the trip to Petaluma Speedway to shake it down before this week’s 31st annual Trophy Cup in Tulare, CA.
“We have kind of fought the 360ci all year, so it was a great opportunity for us to shake it down on Saturday night,” Chance Grasty said. “Overall, I was really happy with it, and I think we had a car capable of winning but a steering box issue ended our night early.”
Going out early in qualifying time trials, Grasty admittedly didn’t lay a great lap down but it was still good enough for the Bushey Financial Services/C&H Motor Parts/Sierra Single Ply Roofing entry to go quick time.
Lining up in the second row of his heat race, the Suisun City, CA driver continued to run well as he worked his way up to finish second and lock himself into the nightly redraw.
Pulling the four, Grasty rolled off the starting grid from the second row on a surface that came back to life and got extremely fast as the night moved along.
When the green flag dropped, Grasty was patient as he ran in fourth for the first few stanzas before he was able to begin his trek to the front as he took over third.
Taking advantage of second place spinning out, Grasty took the runner up position as he then found himself in hot pursuit of race leader, Andy Forsberg. Despite the light car count the leaders found themselves in lapped traffic.
As they got into the lapping process, Forsberg was forced to get on the binders and it allowed Grasty to power his way into the race lead.
Getting out front, Grasty was able to create a gap but soon started to battle a steering box issue. Hanging on as long as he could, the issue finally started to spray oil all over Grasty and with vision and steering now an issue, he opted to call it a night.
“Not the ending we wanted by any means, but we were really happy that we seemed to have gotten things ironed out on our 360ci engine,” Grasty said. “Thanks to all the F&F Racing guys for their hard work and support, as well as all of our partners who make sure we have what we need to succeed.”
F&F Racing would like to thank Bushey Financial Services, C&H Motor Parts, Sierra Single Ply Roofing, Wrayvon, CRV Carbon Solutions, Quick Change Liquid Energy, All Pro Heads, Engler, and Don Ott Racing Engines for their support.
